Jobs Aren’t Going Away – Skills Are.
Just read an interesting report (on MSNBC) on the state of jobs in America. The essence of the article here is that companies would like to hire people–it’s just that there are few people available.
Their skills aren’t sufficient to land the jobs that are out there. I commented on this article, but it got filtered, so I thought I’d list it here. This is a response to the many commenters who jumped in to blame the corporations for hiring cheaper workers.
I got tired of hearing it so I left this.
Quite tired of hearing the masses blame this on the corporation. HELLO…we live in a capitalist economy where your skills come into and out of demand. If your skills aren’t in demand anymore-and you’re unemployed because of that, have the courage to admit it and go back to school to get newer skills.
Get skills on things that can differentiate you from the masses. Get creative. Spend the time that you might spend blaming the world—on getting new skills.
I don’t care how skilled you are at repairing SCM Typewriters…that dog doesn’t hunt anymore. Sorry. Collect unemployment for 99 weeks…but at some point, you gotta get that….
