From Local Radio to Global Impact

Recently I had a chance to be on a podcast out of Europe called Podcast Gurus. Not sure that’s how I would refer to myself, but Guillaume Jouvencel interviews people with podcast experience.

I thought you’d like to see some of my answers to the questions.

Interviewer: Podcasting seems to be a really powerful tool for businesses these days. Can you tell us more about how it can drive growth?

Bill Caskey: Absolutely. Podcasting has become an essential tool for businesses looking to grow and connect with their audience on a whole new level. It’s a total game-changer.

Interviewer: You were actually a pioneer in the podcasting space. Can you share a bit about your own journey getting into it?

Bill Caskey: For sure. My story kicks off back in 1989 when I founded Caskey Achievement Strategies to help companies level up their sales and leadership skills. At first, I was just doing the local radio circuit. But in 2006, I took the leap into podcasting with a little guidance from a friend on setting things up technically. That allowed me to ditch the limitations of local radio and start reaching people all over the globe.

Interviewer: What were some of the key developments and milestones in your podcasting journey?

Bill Caskey:A huge one was pivoting from that modest local radio show to having the unlimited reach of podcasting. Early on, there were tech hurdles like dealing with RSS feeds, but platforms like iTunes really simplified content distribution.

I was able to leverage my sales coaching expertise to provide killer insights on lead generation, B2B sales strategies and more through shows like my “Advanced Selling Podcast” which has kept audiences hooked for 18 years now.

Later on, I branched out with the “Bill Caskey Podcast” to explore different topics and cater content to diverse audience needs.

Interviewer: How exactly does podcasting improve communication skills in a way that drives business growth?

Bill Caskey: Podcasting forces you to take complex ideas and break them down so they’re easy for listeners to understand. This skill of simplifying things is absolute gold for keeping your audience engaged.

My approach is to 1) Identify common pain, 2) Share relatable stories highlighting those issues, and 3) Provide practical tips based on my experiences. Better communication leads to better connecting with your audience.

Interviewer: And how does that improved communication and connection ultimately translate to business growth?

Bill Caskey: By consistently delivering value through your podcast, you position your business as the go-to, trustworthy authority in your field. A dedicated following builds around that authority.

Plus, podcasts allow you to connect with clients on a deeper level by addressing their needs and sharing success stories that reinforce why they chose to work with you. That strengthens relationships and loyalty.

And with strategic calls-to-action plugging special offers, resources and more, you can smoothly convert casual listeners into actively engaged paying customers to drive more sales.

Interviewer: What tips would you give to businesses looking to maximize the potential of podcasting?

Bill Caskey:First off, have confidence in your voice. Insecurity is a buzzkill. Don’t dawdle – take swift action to launch. Don’t stress over early mistakes, use them as learning opportunities.

Consistency is key for building trust and keeping fans hooked. And invest in quality audio equipment to ensure that crisp, clear sound.

Ultimately, podcasts are a total powerhouse for marketing your services, flexing your authority, providing crazy value, and giving your audience something unique that competitors can’t match.

Interviewer: It certainly sounds like podcasting can be a huge driver for business growth when done right. Thanks for all those insights, Bill!
